Gillicus arcuatus Fossil Fish Skull
A Gillicus arcuatus fossil fish skull from the Cretaceous Niobrara Chalk of Kansas, U.S.A. A superb genuine fossil assemblage of skull and neck vertebrae of this sought after species. A large and eminently displayable piece, hard backed for rigidity, measuring 17" x 12.2" x 1". Not often offered with this amount of additional bones and neck vertebrae.
Gillicus arcuatus was a 2-meter long ichthyodectid fish that lived in the Western Interior Seaway, in what is now central North America, during the Late Cretaceous. Like its larger relative, Ichthyodectes ctenodon, G. arcuatus had numerous small teeth lining its jaws, and ate smaller fish by sucking them into its mouth.
