This superb fossil Palaeoperca proxima from Messel, near Frankfurt, Germany. Fossil Perch are one of the rarest Messel fossil fish and this ones a whopper. One of the largest and finest Proxima specimens you are ever likely to find, measuring 9" in length on a matrix of 12" x 7". Beautiful colouring and spectacular preservation. Superb bone bone and fin detail, and uncrushed skull with open mouth, and even the tiny gill spines (as shown in the photos below).
Messel fish represent very good value for money and are of far superior quality to the similarly aged Green River fish. This one is from an old collection, prepared using traditional methods, and the quality is just exquisite.100% genuine and no repair of any sort.

A very large Green River formation Phareodus encaustus fossil fish measuring 13" long in a good solid matrix of original "18 inch layer" Limestone measuring 28" x 22" x 1.25". Approximately 50,000,000 years old. A ferocious toothy predator high up the food chain, feeding on the likes of the Knightias and Dyplomystus'. It is an extremely rare find, especially in this condition.
