View Page: <Previous 1 2 Next>

A very detailed Scyphocrinus elegans Crinoid fossil from Morocco (Silurian period), measuring 9" x 7.5" x 1". The specimen exhibits superb preservation throughout, and has excellent definition of fossil from matrix. Beautiful colouring, which is a nice change from the greyscales of many of the Chinese specimens. A stunning display piece. These have now become extremely difficult to obtain due to the exhaustion of the Djebel Issoumour beds.

Crawfordsville Crinoid Fossil.

A superb Crinoid fossil, Macrocrinus mundulus, from the famous Edwardsville Formation of Crawfordsville, Indiana, U.S.A. Dates from the Mississippian Epoch. The piece measures 2.5" x 2.3" x 0.9". A 100% genuine example of this sought after species. A highly displayable piece, with an exceptional level of preparation.

Crinoids are part of a large group of marine invertebrate animals called echinoderms. Other echinoderms include starfish, brittle stars, sand dollars, sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Crinoids are unusual looking animals because they resemble plants more than animals. Crinoids are more commonly known as "Sea Lillies", a colloquial nomenclature which relates to their flower-like appearance.
